S70 not accelerating

Post by asammy » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:13 pm

hey guys,

I have a 2000 S70 (not turbo) with 203,000 km. Recently (past month) the car has not been accelerating properly. It started off once a week, then more frequently. I changed the spark plugs, and air filter today, and now it is happening all the time. The car revs high, but does not go. It takes about a min. to hit 50km/hr.
I bought this car from my sister in law back in July, had the timing belt replaced at my local volvo dealership in August, at 197,000 km.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm totally lost with this car. I had a ford ranger before, and everything with that was dirt simple to troubleshoot and repair.
Oh and here is the best part. No engine light is on... :o
please HELP!

Thanks
Andrew

Hello , it sounds like your transmission is slipping , please check the fluid level before driving any more and if it is low top it up before driving . see owners manual for proceedure . If fluid is dark or black then drain and refill - takes 3.5 - 4qts . should use volvo fluid or good quality synthetic like Redline D4 ATF . You might have to drain and fill several times to get enough clean fluid in the total trans . If it is not low or flushing the trans does not help (and it acts like it is in neutral when in drive) then you have serious trans problems and need a replacement unit. Good luck , Larry

There are no lights on, except for washer fluid. There were lights on before this issue, took it to Muffler Man, but their machines could not read the Volvo for some reason. The lights turned off a week ago, after i replaced the stock CD player, with an aftermarket one.

Larry,
I tried checking the transmission fluid today, when I was under the hood changing the spark plugs, but I could not locate the dipstick for it. I feel like a newbie after not being able to locate it. I referred to the owners manual, and looked up the location of the dipstick, but I cannot find it still. I'm not claiming to be a mechanic, but between me and my brother, we have ripped apart both of our Rangers, multiple times, and neither of us could find this dipstick. Having a blonde moment

Many users have trouble finding it. That big image with the transmission dipstick location arrow is probably 8 or 10 years old... it was among the first ever 850 help photos I put up. Same location on S70s.
