Front end noise

Post by Jagtec1 »

I replaced the front struts (due to being mismatched), upper spring seats and upper bearings on my 2001 V70 T5. This was all performed because I knew I was leaving my job and that meant limited/no lift access. I also replaced the worn stabilizer bar end links.

I had no noise prior to replacing these components. I now have front end knocking/rattle over bumps/potholes. It developed shortly after replacing the parts....like within a week. Sounds like bad struts, or bad spring mounts. I know everything is tight. Anyone ever experience this? I suppose I could have assembled something incorrectly, but am fairly confident I did not. I got the parts from a local dealer, all OEM. I'm wondering if they gave me the wrong spring seats or something. I am back in school full time and do not have a ton of extra time to be chasing this issue, but now it's annoying me. Could the new seats be bad already?

Any ideas?

I've got a few ideas, besides double checking the endlinks are tight:
1. I've heard of people adding grease inside the end link boots, as they sometimes don't come with enough.
2. You can inspect the swaybar bushings, they'll make the sound your describing if they're beat up.
3. Ball joints -I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think you can check for play by trying to shake the wheel at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. There shouldn't be any play at all.
hope this helps!
